As engineers, we're able to comprehend more logs in less time thanks to:
- ANSI colors. Frameworks like Ruby on Rails and Java's log4j can output special codes to intelligently colorize log messages, but it's up to the receiver - us - to decide what to do with them. In Papertrail's event viewer, they just work and they look beautiful.
- Subdued defaults. The event viewer isn't a painting we look at once in a museum. It may be open for hours at a time, and predictable colors help it stay easy on our eyes.
